Analysts from the capital Department of Information Technology studied how Muscovites use smart home devices in everyday life and which technology is especially popular. According to the research results, 72 percent of households have at least one such device — this is the highest figure in the entire history of observations. Among city dwellers, voice assistant speakers and robot vacuum cleaners are the most common.
“Muscovites actively use digital devices in almost all aspects of life: for work, leisure, home management, health tracking, and other purposes. An advanced user owns innovative personal devices, such as smart rings or VR glasses. Habits in households are also changing: according to the research, 72 percent already use at least one smart device, while more advanced users have on average more than three such gadgets. They work in conjunction with other equipment, forming a unified ecosystem,” noted Mariam Arevadze, head of the analytical department of the city’s Department of Information Technology.
The most common devices have become smart speakers with voice assistants and smart household appliances. Almost half of the respondents — 46 percent — have speakers, and their popularity continues to grow.
Among household appliances, robot vacuum cleaners, smart kettles, and washing machines lead the market. As a rule, Muscovites begin their acquaintance with a smart home precisely with household appliances. Smoke and motion sensors are used by 35 percent of those surveyed, while lighting and climate control devices are used by 25 percent.
In the capital, residents often use a voice assistant to manage their smart homes. More than half of smart device owners — 54 percent — use more than two different methods. In households with an innovative device ownership model, multiple management scenarios are used in eight out of 10 cases.
Earlier, analysts found that 89 percent of Muscovites are familiar with at least one modern technology. Smart home devices have become some of the most understandable and easy-to-master technologies, and have also received high marks for efficiency and practical usefulness.
In the capital, smart home elements are also used in the urban environment. Residents have access to smart water meters with remote data transmission.
