On September 10, it will be one year since the opening of the first section of a tram line without an overhead wire in Russia. During this time, passengers have made more than 28.7 million trips on tram routes running along Akademika Sakharova Avenue. Today, Moscow tram diameters T1 and T2 operate here.
The section on Akademik Sakharov Avenue was opened on September 10, 2025. The first “Lvyónok-Moscow” trams with autonomous operation, which do not require overhead wires for movement, were put into service.
The development of tram traffic on the section continued with the launch of the Moscow Tram Diameters:
• September 10, 2025 route No. 90 has started operating;
• November 12, 2025 he was replaced by the first Moscow tram diameter T1;
• April 9, 2026 On Akademika Sakharova Avenue, the diameter T2 was launched. Along with “Lvyata-Moscow,” three-section “Vityazi-Moscow” vehicles with an autonomous running system were put into service on the route.
Today, T1 and T2 pass through 20 districts of Moscow, connecting residential, educational, and business areas with the city center. On the routes, passengers can transfer to 41 metro station, MCC, MCD, and railway, as well as on 4 railway stations.
Moscow tram diameters operate on the principle of a ground-level street metro: modern fully low-floor trams run at intervals 6 minutes, and on the common section of T1 and T2 between the stations “Krasnoselskaya” and “Tulskaya” — every 3 minutes.
“On the instructions of the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin, we continue to develop the Moscow tram diameters and increase the accessibility of surface transport. In the first year of operation of the section on Akademika Sakharova Avenue, passengers made more than 28.7 million trips. Such demand confirms the importance of the new route for Muscovites. Today, T1 and T2 connect city districts through the center, provide convenient transfers to other types of transport, and allow faster travel to desired points in Moscow,” noted Maxim Liksutov.
