A week before the start of the main program of the International Youth Festival (IYF), more than 230 Moscow volunteers went to Yekaterinburg to meet volunteers from other regions, get acquainted with venues and tasks, and undergo functional and site briefings. An extensive cultural and recreational program is also planned for the volunteers. The festival will take place from September 11 to 17 and will bring together 10,000 participants and two thousand volunteers from different regions.
“More than 230 volunteers from the Moscow delegation went to Yekaterinburg. Before the trip, the participants underwent selection and training: they learned how to work in a team, communicate with representatives of different cultures, and assist in unusual situations. In Yekaterinburg, they will be able to apply this knowledge in practice, gain new experience, and find like-minded people. The capital’s volunteers brought badges, souvenirs, magnets to exchange with other volunteers and participants from different regions and countries,” said the director of the resource center

The week of preparation before the festival
Before the festival, volunteers will study the area, receive accreditation, equipment, as well as site-specific and functional briefings. They will get acquainted with the team leaders who will coordinate them during the festival and assist in unusual situations, and will also learn the action algorithms for specific positions. The group leader will explain the tasks at the venue, the interaction processes, and answer questions.
In functional training, MFM volunteers learn the specifics of their area, the algorithms of actions on the sites, analyze scenarios of real situations, and the rules of interaction with participants and guests of the festival.
On-site training takes place directly at the festival venues: volunteers familiarize themselves with the event program they will be assisting with. This preparation allows them to feel confident on the first day and immediately engage in the process.
Team leaders and managers of the volunteer corps are undergoing separate training in Yekaterinburg. They will be the ones coordinating the thousands-strong team directly at the venues.
During the festival, volunteers will be involved in 17 functional areas. These include accreditation, logistics, escorting Russian and foreign delegations and experts, assisting participants with limited mobility, translation, excursion programs, and creating content for social media. Additionally, volunteers will help guests navigate the area, as well as address organizational issues and create a comfortable atmosphere at the venues.
From translation to media support
“Mosvolonter” became one of the centers for recruiting and training volunteers for the International Youth Festival. In the capital, candidates underwent selection and training before the trip to Yekaterinburg.
Kseniya Kosogorova joined the volunteer movement after enrolling at the Moscow State Linguistic University. Participating in city events gave her the opportunity to apply her knowledge of foreign languages in practice, meet people from different countries, and gain experience in international communication. The trip to Yekaterinburg is especially significant for her — the festival will take place in her hometown.
At MFM, Ksenia will join the linguistic support team. She speaks English, French, and Spanish and expects to use them when communicating with foreign guests and participants.
“For me, the International Youth Festival is an opportunity to apply my knowledge, help participants from different countries understand each other, and gain even more practice. It is especially pleasant that an event of this scale will take place in the Urals. I look forward to new acquaintances, communication, and the energy that large international events bring,” shared Ksenia Kosogorova.
Another member of the Moscow team — Margarita Buchina — has been volunteering since 2019. Over the years, she has tried roles as a media volunteer, team leader, and manager: organizing processes and creating content. In Yekaterinburg, Margarita will lead and develop the volunteer community page for MFM-2026 on the social network VKontakte and share information about interesting events. The young woman admits that she was very eager to become part of such a large-scale event and that above all, she wants to soak in the festival atmosphere, meet new people, and join a team of like-minded individuals.
