Buses of the “Moscow — Region” project, which started in the summer of 2025, have traveled more than 16 million kilometers. The routes already connect the capital with eight urban districts of the Moscow region. These are Khimki, Krasnogorsk, Krasnoznamensk, Vlasikha, Solnechnogorsk, Mytishchi, Odintsovo, and Dolgoprudny.

Within the framework of the “Moscow — Region” project, eight bus models operate. Among them are the spacious LiAZ “Citymax-12”, NefAZ-5299 (in urban and suburban versions), and KamAZ-5222 electric buses, as well as mid-class buses “Citymax-9” and KamAZ-4290. Very soon, small-class buses will be put on the routes. All vehicles fully comply with Moscow transport standards, are adapted for transporting passengers with reduced mobility, as well as bicycles and strollers. In addition, the transport is equipped with a climate control system and USB ports for charging mobile devices. Information about stops is displayed on media screens, and using QR codes inside the cabin, passengers can leave feedback about the trip.
Development of the “Moscow — Region” project
By agreement between the governments of Moscow and the Moscow Region, in 2026 more than 50 existing suburban routes on the western, northwestern, northern, and northeastern directions are planned to be integrated into the Moscow transport system. More than half of them have already switched to new standards. For the operation of the routes, more than 600 modern buses of different capacity classes have been purchased: medium, large, and large suburban. Some of them are already running on the routes launched last year as part of the “Moscow — Region” project.
The introduction of new adjacent interregional routes will not only increase passenger comfort but also give an additional impetus to the development of transport infrastructure in the Moscow region. It is planned to install modern bus shelters, arrange dedicated lanes, create new and reconstruct existing transport hubs. This will enable residents to more actively use various types of urban transport for daily trips from the Moscow suburbs to Moscow and back. The rolling stock freed up from the regional carrier will be redirected to strengthen routes passing through the territory of the Moscow region to the stations of the Moscow Central Diameters.
In accordance with the objectives of the national project “Infrastructure for Life” In Moscow, great attention is paid to the modernization of social and communal infrastructure, including increasing the number of convenient urban transport routes and updating the rolling stock. In addition, within the framework of the national project, the capital has begun developing the Central Transport Hub.
