The in-person stage of the All-Russian urbanist hackathon “Cities,” organized by the NGO “Creative Economy,” has concluded in Kurgan. For five days, young architects, urbanists, and specialists from related fields developed development concepts for the Tobol River embankment—one of the key public spaces in this city.
The victory in the face-to-face stage was shared by two projects. One of them was the concept “Heart of Kurgan,” among the developers of which is a student of our university. Anna Galyuk (second year of the Faculty of Architecture). Her co-authors are Elizaveta Chiyanova (Ural State University of Architecture and Arts named after N. S. Alferov), Adil Khairullin (Moscow Architectural Institute) and Artem Gavrilov (Saint Petersburg). They shared first place with the project “Master Plan.”
The Tobol Embankment is one of the largest improvement projects in Kurgan. Before starting the design, the participants got acquainted with the city and the site of the future work.
They studied the space along the Tobol, the features of the urban landscape, returned to the site several times, and analyzed existing routes and attraction points. The work was carried out in several stages: the teams successively presented intermediate results to experts, discussed the proposed solutions, and refined the projects taking into account the feedback received.
A separate stage of the program was dedicated to a meeting with residents, business representatives, architects, and public organizations. Participants discussed how the space is used today, which ideas residents consider promising for its development, and which features are important to preserve.
The concept of “Heart of Kurgan” focuses on transforming the central section of the embankment into a modern public space.
The All-Russian Urbanistic Hackathon “Cities” is a federal platform where young architects, urban planners, and related specialists develop territorial development concepts under the guidance of leading experts based on specific regional requests. Young specialists get the opportunity to add a federal case to their portfolio and work with practicing industry experts. The project unites three forces: talented architects, the professional community, and regional demands.
