The Moscow Creative Industries Agency, subordinate to the capital’s To the Department of Culture, will open the fourth season of the project “Moscow Workshops.” Over three seasons, about 100 artists have become residents of the art center, presenting their works at exhibitions in the city, as well as participating in fairs and contemporary art markets. The opening of the fourth season will take place on October 5.
Each artist will be provided with a personal space for creativity, access to shared production areas with pottery wheels, a drying and clay work area, and kilns for firing. For six months, they will be supported by curators: specialists will help develop an individual work plan for the project — from the initial sketch to the finished piece, which will be presented at the season’s final exhibition.
The project has become an important platform for the development of contemporary art in the capital, bringing together creators, experts, and thousands of city residents. During the operation of the “Moscow Workshops,” more than 520 events have been held — tours, master classes, art apartment concerts, performances, and meetings with artists, attended by over eight thousand people. This format allows residents not only to work in studios but also to interact with the audience.
In personal studios, artists bring their ideas to finished works. In previous seasons, they not only showcased their works at exhibitions but also participated in fairs and markets of contemporary art. The residents of the project’s art center also regularly hold lectures and workshops on painting and ceramics.
The new season will also bring an additional work format — a special project “In the Heart of the Wild,” carried out in collaboration with the Moscow Zoo. A part of the residents — 10 artists out of 35 — will go on plein air trips over six months, make sketches, observe animals, and communicate with zoo staff, developing their impressions in workshops together with the curator. At the end of the special project, an exhibition of selected works will be held at the zoo.
The “Moscow Workshops” project is forming a creative community where diverse artistic practices coexist equally. Artists try themselves in new directions and create projects that would not have appeared under normal conditions. Thus, in the third season, they actively exchanged techniques — from painting on stone to creating volumetric installations and objects from copper and electronics. A vivid example of such unification was the collective project “Cardboard City” — an art collaboration with the participation of 14 artists: in a couple of weeks, the authors created an installation — a whole city. Participants of the fourth season will continue the tradition of professional and creative exchange.
“Moscow Workshops” is a city art center opened in May 2025 by the Moscow Agency of Creative Industries. In addition to 35 studios, it has an exhibition hall, a lecture hall, and a zone for master classes, which allows combining the residency program with an open cultural life for the city.
