19 sports grounds for modern pentathlon training operate in Moscow

More than 3,700 children and adults practice modern pentathlon in Moscow. The capital has 19 zones equipped for training in this sport. Nine of them are under the operational management of subordinate institutions. Moscow Department of Sports.

Modern pentathlon is a sport that represents a comprehensive competition. It includes five disciplines: épée fencing, 200-meter freestyle swimming, a 60–70 meter obstacle course race (walls, rings, balance beams), cross-country running over a distance of 3,200 meters, and laser pistol shooting at targets located on the running course (combined event).

The winner is determined by the total points scored by the athlete or team in five disciplines. Points are awarded for the result in each event of the program.

Athletes participating in the competitions must be versatile, enduring, coordinated, and psychologically resilient. This makes the pentathlon one of the most challenging sports, which harmoniously develops these qualities, as well as strength, speed, agility, and flexibility through a variety of disciplines.

In the Moscomsport system, the additional educational program of sports training in modern pentathlon is implemented at the Moscow Academy of Modern Pentathlon. More than 330 people train here, including Masters of Sports of Russia and international class. More than 20 coaches-teachers work with the students, some of whom hold the title of “Honored Coach of Russia”.

The Moscow Academy of Modern Pentathlon is the main training base for capital city athletes — members of the Russian national team. The athletes have won at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships.

The academy complex, located on the 9th Northern Line in the Northern district, includes a 25-meter swimming pool, a multipurpose sports hall, an indoor shooting range, an equestrian arena, two show jumping fields, a tennis court, and stables for 10 horses. All-Russian competitions, as well as Moscow championships and tournaments, are held here.

In addition, as part of the implementation of the Targeted Investment Program in 2020, a sports complex for modern pentathlon called “Severny” was built at 11 Arsyukov Street.

On September 5, the Union State Cup in modern pentathlon was held at the “Severny” center and at the complex of the Moscow Academy of Modern Pentathlon. It was organized by the capital’s by the Department of Sports in conjunction with the Modern Pentathlon Federation of Russia. The tournament featured 12 teams from Russia, Belarus, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
