On September 9, there will be a ceremonial unveiling of a memorial plaque dedicated to the People’s Artist of the USSR, an actor of the State Academic Mossovet Theater, subordinate to Department of Culture to the city of Moscow, Leonid Markov. The sculptor was the honored artist of Russia Dmitry Klavsuts.
The event will be attended by the artist’s widow Elena Markova, the artistic director of the State Academic Theatre named after Mossovet Evgeny Marchelli, director Alexey Cherepnev, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Olga Ostroumova, Honored Artists of the RSFSR Nelly Pshennaya, Leonid Yevtifiev, Honored Artists of the Russian Federation Valery Yaremenko, Olga Anokhina, Vladimir Goryushin, Leonid Fomin, and others.
The unveiling of the memorial plaque for L.V. Markov (1927–1991) is a significant event in Moscow’s cultural life. The actor created a whole gallery of diverse characters—from Soviet generals, party traders, and communists to classic heroes and aristocrats. Leonid Markov joined the Mossovet Theater in the mid-1960s, and it was here that his talent truly flourished, playing his main theatrical roles: Arbenin in “Masquerade,” Zvyagintsev in “They Fought for Their Country,” Porfiry Petrovich in “Petersburg Dreams,” Alexey Orlov in “The Tsar’s Hunt,” and others. Popularity and nationwide love were also brought to him by his film work, including the movies “Investigation Held by ZnaToKi. The Escape,” “My Tender and Affectionate Beast,” “Garage,” and other films.
