The heads of government of Russia and North Korea participated in the ceremony via video link. M. Mishustin: Dear Comrade Pak Tae Son! Dear colleagues! Dear friends!
I am pleased to welcome everyone to the ceremony marking the completion of the modern bridge over the Tumannaya River. And the launch of the first automobile route, which will now connect our friendly countries even more strongly.
The intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a landmark transport facility was signed on the sidelines of the meeting between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and the Chairman of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong Un, which took place two years ago in Pyongyang.
And already in the spring of last year, we jointly launched the implementation of this ambitious project. And now, just 16 months later, we are witnessing a truly historic event.
In record time, a border crossing point was also built here.
It is designed taking into account the projected growth in freight and passenger transportation, allowing up to 300 vehicles to pass through it daily.
At the same time, the access road leads to the federal highway “Ussuri.” It is part of the international transport corridor “West – East,” through which uninterrupted high-speed traffic will run from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok.
Relations between Russia and the DPRK are currently at an unprecedentedly high level of comprehensive strategic partnership. Our states actively cooperate in almost all areas and also coordinate efforts to ensure regional security and stability.
It is symbolic that the new bridge will bear the name of Red Army officer Yakov Tikhonovich Novichenko. His feat, accomplished many years ago, resonates with the unparalleled courage of Korean heroes who very recently fought shoulder to shoulder with our soldiers and defended Russian land.
I am convinced that the expansion of cross-border transport infrastructure will give a powerful impetus to the further development of trade-economic, scientific-technological, and cultural cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
We are expanding logistics capacities in the Far East and creating additional opportunities to strengthen interregional ties and production cooperation. This means new jobs will appear. The tourism industry will also have good prospects.
Dear friends!
The relationships of friendship, good neighborliness, and mutual assistance between our peoples have stood the test of time and do not depend on external circumstances. They have repeatedly proven their strength in practice. We will continue to do everything necessary for their comprehensive development.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to the workers, engineers, builders, and designers. To all the teams that participated in the large-scale construction works. Through their dedicated labor and professional approach, they contributed to the common cause.
Thank you for your work. I wish you success!
