Since the beginning of the year, 10 sports infrastructure facilities have been built in six districts of the capital. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction. Vladimir Efimov.
“Social infrastructure is being developed in the capital, including sports facilities. Thus, since the beginning of the year, 10 sports facilities have already been built in various districts of the capital. Among them is the reconstructed Torpedo Stadium named after E.A. Streltsov in the Danilovsky district, with a total area of more than 62 thousand square meters. The four-story stadium with an underground level is designed to hold 15 thousand spectators in the stands and up to 20 thousand people in concert mode. Thanks to the reconstruction, more than 1,100 jobs have also been created. The total area of all buildings on the complex territory amounts to 70 thousand square meters. Among them are the stadium itself, a physical culture and health complex, and other administrative buildings,” noted Vladimir Efimov.
At the sports complex named after E.A. Streltsov, built in 1959 at 4a Vostochnaya Street, the central arena has been renovated. The facility is designed to accommodate one million visitors annually.
“The reconstruction of the Torpedo Stadium is the creation of a multifunctional space that will become a major training base and allow for large-scale international events and competitions. The central arena with a high-quality turf meeting the FIFA Quality Pro standard, equipped with automatic heating and irrigation systems, is complemented by three training fields: one full-size and two small ones. On the stadium grounds, a museum of the Torpedo football club, a club merchandise store, dining establishments, and auxiliary services will open. It will also house a children’s football school. For Moscow, this means the emergence of a comfortable environment for family leisure and sports activities,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the city’s Department of Urban Policy.
The construction of all sports complexes in the capital is under the supervision of the Moscow City State Construction Supervision Committee (Mosgosstroynadzor). According to the head of the agency Anton Slobodchikov, the committee inspectors made over 130 visits to the construction sites of 10 sports facilities. At the Torpedo Stadium alone, 16 control and supervisory events have taken place since work began in September 2022. Based on the inspection results, the structures received conclusions confirming compliance with the project documentation, after which they were put into operation.
The “Torpedo” complex is shaped like a huge metal gear. This architectural form refers to the history of the Likhachev factory and the industrial past of the Danilovsky district. The characteristic toothed silhouette is created by the geometry of the facade and roof, made from multilayer steel composite panels and fiber concrete. Thanks to this, the stadium is perceived as part of the former factory territory.
An underground parking lot with 152 spaces and a ground-level parking lot for an additional 52 cars have been provided for motorists.
Earlier, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin opened the Torpedo stadium after reconstruction.
