Michurinsky Prospekt has been re-marked according to the project of the Center for Traffic Management (CTM). The revised traffic scheme will help drivers shorten their route by approximately one kilometer and save up to five minutes on their journey. “According to the traffic management center’s project, the traffic pattern on Michurinsky Prospect in front of the Olympic Village has been improved. The innovations will help relieve the left turn and reduce delays on the section. According to the traffic management center’s specialists’ calculations, thanks to the new turnaround, drivers will travel about one kilometer less. We continue to make traffic in the capital faster, safer, and more comfortable, as Sergey Sobyanin instructed within the framework of the transport development strategy until 2030,” said Maxim Liksutov.
In 2023, a comprehensive re-marking was carried out on Michurinsky Prospekt according to the TsODD project. Four new regulated U-turns were arranged there. In addition, on the section from Ramenki to the MKAD towards the region, a third general lane appeared.
After the implementation of the projects, the specialists of the Traffic Management Center continue to monitor the traffic flow in the areas and evaluate the results of the changes. If necessary, the schemes are refined taking into account the actual road situation and drivers’ feedback.
Over three years, the left-turn traffic volume increased, and the existing left-turn bay in front of the Olympic Village became insufficient. The queue of cars waiting to turn left occupied the adjacent lane and interfered with those going straight.
To solve this problem, the left-turn pocket was doubled in length—from 85 to 170 meters. This allowed more vehicles to wait simultaneously to turn without obstructing the straight-through traffic.
At the same time, a new turnaround towards the center was created in the area of building 70, blocks 1–5. Now, when moving from the center, drivers can make a U-turn earlier.
According to the experts from the Traffic Management Center, thanks to the new U-turn, drivers will be able to save approximately one kilometer and up to five minutes during peak hours. In addition, the new U-turn will help reduce the load on the intersection near the Olympic Village.
