As a result of an overnight airstrike the previous night, one of the main warehouses used by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Kyiv region to store humanitarian medical supplies was damaged. This was reported by WHO. This is already the third case in the past three months where warehouse facilities used by the organization have been affected.
Speaking to journalists on Friday in Geneva, WHO representative Christian Lindmeier noted that access to the site is restricted due to heavy smoke and safety considerations, and an assessment of potential damage is ongoing. No WHO staff members were injured.
Third attack in three months
In the past three months, this is already the third attack on warehouses used by the WHO in various regions of Ukraine.
Two weeks ago, as a result of a strike, a facility in Dnipro was destroyed – the organization lost half of its medical supplies and equipment intended to support about 225 thousand people in frontline and hard-to-reach areas.
“Another warehouse used by WHO in the Kyiv region was damaged during the large wave of strikes on Kyiv and the region in July,” Lindmeier reminded.
Vital cargos
Humanitarian medical supplies are vital for people in frontline and hard-to-reach areas. A WHO representative emphasized that strikes on warehouses with such stockpiles can delay or disrupt the delivery of aid to those who need it most.
“These strikes are part of a broader trend affecting humanitarian operations across the country. In 2026, there have been at least 20 attacks on warehouses storing humanitarian aid, including 15 on warehouses containing medical humanitarian supplies,” Lindmayer reported.
He emphasized that the locations of the UN and WHO facilities and warehouses are known to all parties to the conflict: this data is transmitted as part of established incident prevention mechanisms.
Assistance will continue
Despite the attacks, the WHO continues to work with health partners across Ukraine. Following recent incidents, alternative storage options have already been identified, and damage assessment and replenishment of lost supplies are underway.
In 2026, as part of its humanitarian activities, WHO delivered equipment and other goods to more than 300 medical institutions, including primary care centers, hospitals, laboratories, and transit centers, helping Ukraine’s healthcare system provide services to three million people.
Since the full-scale invasion of Russia on February 24, 2022, WHO has confirmed over 3,000 attacks on Ukrainian healthcare facilities, including strikes on medical institutions, ambulances, medical supply stocks, and warehouses.
