Financial News: Retail Investors Increased Investments in Stocks on the Moscow Exchange by 3.6 Times in August

Individual investments in securities on the Moscow Exchange stock market in August 2026 amounted to 212.5 billion rubles.

Private investors’ investments in stocks in August amounted to 30.5 billion rubles, which is 3.6 times more than in August 2025. The inflow of funds into bonds was 151.6 billion rubles, and into mutual funds – 30.4 billion rubles.

The number of private investors with brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange as of the end of August 2026 amounted to 42.5 million (+278.1 thousand in August), with more than 81.4 million accounts opened by them. In August, more than 3 million people conducted transactions on the Moscow Exchange, of which more than 349.7 thousand were qualified investors.

The share of individual investors in stock trading volume in August was 64.2%, in bond trading volume – 15.2%, and in the derivatives market – 48.9%.

In August 2026, into the retail portfolio of a private investor at the Moscow Exchange[1] included common and preferred shares of Sberbank (31.7% and 7.2% respectively), shares of LUKOIL (13.3%), Gazprom (11.6%), VTB (7.2%), T-Technology (7.1%), Yandex (6%), Norilsk Nickel (5.4%), Novatek (5.3%), Rosneft (5.2%).
In the portfolio of an individual investor’s interval mutual fund Money market funds make up 86.7% – LQDT (44.6%), AKMM (18.7%), SBMM (17.2%), BCSD (2.5%), and AMNR (1.9%). The portfolio also included bond investment funds with variable coupons SBFR (4.2%) and AKFB (4.2%), a money market and bond asset investment fund SAFE (3.2%), an actively managed bond investment fund AKMB (1.9%), and corporate ruble bonds SBRB (1.8%).

The most popular stocks from the Moscow Exchange Index IPO among private investors’ trades as of August 2026 were shares of Zaymer (ZAYM), Promomed (PRMD), Basis Group (BAZA), MTS Bank (MBNK), APRI (APRI), Europplan (LEAS), DOM.RF (DOM.RF), VI.ru (VSEH), Arenadata Group (DATA), and Glorax (GLRX).

The number of individual investment accounts (IIAs) as of the end of August amounted to 6.4 million (+57.7 thousand). The trading turnover on IIA accounts in August 2026 amounted to 292.3 billion rubles. In the turnover structure, 52% were transactions with stocks, 25% with bonds, and 23% with investment fund shares.

Regions leading in the number of open IIS accounts: Moscow (657.6 thousand accounts), Moscow Region (383.5 thousand), and Saint Petersburg (322.7 thousand). They are followed by Krasnodar Krai (217.9 thousand), Sverdlovsk Region (213.1 thousand accounts), Republic of Bashkortostan (194.3 thousand), Tatarstan (175.3 thousand), Rostov Region (171.8 thousand), Chelyabinsk Region (155 thousand), and Samara Region (145.6 thousand).
