New dedicated lanes will open from September 26 at the intersection of Leningradskoye and Volokolamskoye highways. The total length of the sections will reach almost 0.5 kilometers. Thanks to them, surface city transport will pass these sections faster.
New dedicated lanes are the result of joint work by the State Public Institution “Transport Organizer” and the Traffic Management Center.
“By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, we are developing infrastructure for the stable operation of city transport. In the area of the Sokol metro station, we will open two new dedicated lane sections simultaneously. They will significantly improve the operation of 11 surface transport routes, on which more than 115 thousand trips are made daily. In addition, buses and electric buses of some routes will come closer to the tram turning loop. As a result, passengers will have the opportunity to make a convenient short transfer,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
Thanks to the new dedicated lanes on the Volokolamsk Highway service road, the travel time for buses and trolleybuses will be halved—from seven to 3.5 minutes. When exiting from Leningrad Highway onto the Volokolamsk Highway service road, surface transport will pass the section three times faster—taking five minutes instead of 17.
Dedicated lanes remain a reliable tool for creating a comfortable environment for surface urban transport movement. They reduce travel time for buses and electric buses on average by two to four times, and also decrease the risk of road traffic accidents by approximately 25 percent. Trips on surface transport become safer. Priority is given to urban transport, which reduces waiting time at stops. Additionally, dedicated lanes allow for optimizing operations and properly distributing buses and trolleybuses among routes.
