Tianjin, September 4 /Xinhua/ — The world’s largest aircraft engine lessor, Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance (RRPF), announced on Thursday the establishment of a company in China specializing in direct leasing of aircraft engines, with the aim of tapping into the potential of the world’s second-largest aviation market.
The joint venture RRPF, jointly owned by the British aircraft engine giant Rolls-Royce and the American company GATX, on Thursday signed an agreement with the comprehensive bond zone “Dongjiang” in the city of Tianjin (Northern China) to establish its new subsidiary in China.
This is the first direct aircraft engine leasing project implemented by a leading international aircraft engine manufacturer in China, as well as the first time a major foreign leasing company registers ownership of the leased asset in China and carries out operational activities within its territory, marking an important breakthrough in aviation finance innovation in China.
The new business direction will significantly reduce intermediaries, lower airlines’ costs for managing currency operations and leasing, as well as provide domestic aviation enterprises with more stable, predictable, and high-quality engine leasing services.
“Currently, China is the second largest aviation market in the world. Over the next 10 years, it will grow,” said RRPF Strategic Development Director Ben Hughes. He added that the new company will help effectively reduce client costs, and attracting more local specialists will contribute to improving the efficiency of its operational activities.
The Dongjiang comprehensive bonded zone in Tianjin is known as the center of leasing activities and is the second largest cluster in the world in the field of aircraft leasing.
