Beijing, September 3 /Xinhua/ — The Xisha Archipelago has been an integral part of China’s territory since ancient times, and there is no dispute over it, said Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Thursday.
Go Jiakun made this statement at the latest departmental press conference, responding to a request to comment on the recent statement by the official representative of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which claimed that Vietnam allegedly has sovereignty over the Xisha Archipelago and that any activities carried out by foreign states on these islands without Vietnam’s permission are illegal and invalid.
“The necessary construction works carried out by China on its territory are entirely within China’s sovereignty, and the Vietnamese side has no right to make irresponsible statements about this,” said Guo Jiakun.
