On the platform “City of Ideas» summarized the project results “Museum Capital”, which took place from August 5 to 12. The number of its participants exceeded 3,800 people. They proposed more than three thousand ideas for the development of city museums, from which experts selected the most interesting ones and put them to a public vote. Based on its results, 92 initiatives that received the greatest support from citizens will be implemented by the city Department of Culture. They will help make leisure in the capital even more convenient, modern, and accessible.
Proposals from city residents on the development of the capital’s museums
Muscovites shared their proposals across four areas. Among interesting ideas to improve service quality were the creation of bundled tickets for museums of similar themes, such as biological or engineering museums, as well as the creation of a special family subscription. Project participants paid great attention to new ways of informing about event programs. They proposed placing posters with QR codes at museum entrances or cloakroom counters, which would lead to a page with the current schedule and the possibility to register for events. Among the accepted initiatives were also announcing the program on multimedia screens in the metro and ground transportation, as well as integrating the museum calendar into popular city services, for example, the electronic diary “}]}Moscow Electronic School» for parents.
Among the initiatives adopted for implementation are ideas for developing the program of events for the “Night at the Museum” campaign. Residents suggested combining several museums with a common storyline and conducting quests with tasks to be completed at different venues, a contest for the best video about visiting the exhibitions, master classes on calligraphy and artifact restoration, as well as tours of historical and cultural districts.
Among the ideas for expanding the range of souvenirs are the issuance of themed tickets dedicated to significant exhibitions and the creation of a universal gift card with a unique design, which can be used to pay for both souvenir items purchased at the museum and tickets and subscriptions for visiting exhibitions.
Special attention is planned to be given to creating souvenirs designed for people with visual impairments, such as tactile replicas of exhibits, aromatic candles, audio postcards, calendars with Braille, and textured magnets. Such products will allow visitors to be reminded of their museum visit through touch and smell.
Thematic Discussions
As part of the “Museum Capital” project, discussions were also held on seven topics, such as the experience of visiting capital museums, interesting formats of tours, development of the volunteer movement, the convenience of the “Museum Moscow Online” portal, the creation of a loyalty program for regular visitors, feedback, and the museum audience. In these discussions, participants left almost nine thousand comments, sharing their impressions, wishes, observations, and outlining additional directions for museum development.

Participants noted the multimedia innovations, emphasizing that such an approach makes getting acquainted with history and art more engaging. Interactive formats received special feedback: games, quests, outdoor excursions, and the opportunity to touch a replica of an exhibit.
The townspeople also noted the work of the guides, who not only convey information but turn listeners into active researchers, engaging them in dialogue and awakening a lively interest in the topic. The discussion participants also talked about the importance of volunteers’ activities, whose sincere enthusiasm for history and culture helps museums become even more accessible to different categories of visitors, including children, elderly people, and townspeople with disabilities.
City residents recognized the convenience and usefulness of the “Museum Moscow Online” portal with the opportunity for virtual acquaintance with exhibits, and they consider loyalty programs a promising tool for encouraging regular museum visitors and forming a habit of their frequent attendance.
