Reception has started in Moscow applications by artists to participate in the fourth season of the project “Moscow Workshops.” It is being implemented by the Agency for Creative Industries, overseen by the capital city Department of Culture.
Artists of various styles and genres can become residents of the city art center. For six months, they will work in studios and create artworks, which they will present at the final exhibition. It will be open to residents and visitors of Moscow.
Applications are accepted until September 15, 2026. An expert commission will select participants based on artistic portfolios. Thirty-five artists will become residents of the “Moscow Workshops” project. Over six months, they will receive curatorial support, have the opportunity to create in a personal studio and in common areas equipped with potter’s wheels and clay, as well as facilities for drying and firing.
In the fourth season, an additional format of work is planned — a special project “In the Heart of Wildlife,” implemented jointly with the Moscow Zoo. Ten artists will go on plein airs over six months to sketch from life, observing animals and interacting with zoo staff. Then they will develop their impressions in studios together with a curator. At the end of the special project, an exhibition of selected works will also be held at the zoo itself.
Last season, the participants actively engaged in creative exploration: they communicated, exchanged techniques, and used materials unfamiliar to them. Photographer and artist Anastasia Markovskaya began experimenting with painting on stone, and then found a way to transfer photographic images onto it — thus, completely new visual images were born.
Sergey Mikhailov, who previously worked in fine flat graphics of a small format, for the first time switched to creating volumetric models and prepared a large wall painting for the final exhibition.
Anya Pushechnikova, who works on large ceramic pieces, returned to the project and took up engraving metal discs for the first time, transferring mythological images onto them. Lana Stalnaya, known for her painting, stepped away from her usual technique specifically for the final exhibition and created an installation. Photographer Dmitry Sviridov began creating complex objects from copper and electronics for the first time.
A vivid example of artists coming together was the collective project “Cardboard City” — an art collaboration involving 14 artists. The idea was conceived by Matvey Dergachyov. In two weeks, almost unfamiliar with each other, the creators made a cohesive installation, and the very process of working brought them closer and helped many reach a new level — conducting experiments that will form the basis of future series of works.

The “Moscow Workshops” space is open not only to professional artists — residents of Moscow who are interested in art also come here. The city art center holds tours, workshops, meetings with artists, and art apartment sessions for children and adults.
The art industry is one of the key sectors of Moscow’s creative industries. To support artists and galleries, the Moscow Creative Industries Agency has built a whole system for the development of young specialists. In May 2025, a city art center for artists and youth was opened. “Moscow Workshops”, which houses 35 fully equipped studios.
