The capital will host the second marathon of good deeds from September 7 to 20, timed to coincide with the World First Aid Day. This year, the event will bring together more than 130 free themed activities for city residents of different ages. They will take place at the ‘Kind Place’ volunteer centers, as well as in schools and colleges. The marathon will be organized by the ‘Mosvolonter’ resource center and the regional branch of the ‘First Movement’. Registration is open on the website mosvolonter.ru.

“It is important to provide first aid quickly and competently — these basic skills will be taught to marathon participants. At the master classes, volunteer instructors will explain first aid algorithms: how to act in cases of stroke, burns, injuries, bleeding, poisoning, bites, as well as how to correctly call an ambulance. The acquired knowledge will be useful for Muscovites at home, at work, in transport, and on the street, when every minute before the arrival of doctors is crucial,” said Alexander Levit, director of the Mosvolonter resource center.

Last year, more than 2,500 people took part in the marathon of good deeds. Almost 80 experts demonstrated by personal example to Muscovites, teachers, and students that everyone should know the basics of providing first aid and that it is necessary to learn this.

New features

First aid lessons for everyone interested will be held at the volunteer district centers. Thus, Muscovites can register for master class at “A Good Place. SVAO”, which will take place on September 9. The next day there will be a useful practical exercise at “Dobroe mesto. CAO.” On September 11, everyone interested is invited volunteer center in the south of the capital. In “In a Good Place. VAO” and “In a Good Place. SZAO” Volunteer instructors will explain the algorithms of actions in various situations on September 12 in the southeast of the capital. class will take place on September 15. To participate in the events, Muscovites need to register in advance.

Anyone of any age, with any profession and education, can acquire new skills and knowledge. During practical sessions, Muscovites will learn what to do in cases of unconsciousness, stroke, respiratory arrest, injuries, wounds, trauma, and burns. Additionally, they will learn how to properly provide assistance in cases of poisoning, animal and insect bites, seizures, and acute stress reactions, as well as examine the legal aspects of providing first aid.

With the support of volunteer instructors, participants will independently perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation: on mannequins and special equipment, they will assist an unconscious person who is not breathing. They will also be taught how to stop bleeding using a tourniquet or improvised means and why effective communication with the emergency dispatcher is an important skill during a rescue, as well as explained what information about the person’s condition, address, and contacts needs to be clearly and accurately conveyed and how to answer the specialist’s questions on the phone as fully as possible.

In schools and colleges, themed first-aid lessons will be organized together with the regional branch of the “Movement of the First.” During the sessions, students and teachers will be shown what to do if a person loses consciousness or chokes on something, how to act in cases of injuries and burns, how to properly examine and question the victim, as well as how to help in cases of heart attack and stroke. The meetings will take place in an interactive format: the participants will take on the roles of victims and rescuers and practice handling situations.

Under expert supervision

First aid training will be conducted by professional volunteer instructors from eight partner organizations: the Youth Council of Moscow Medicine, the Moscow Territorial Scientific and Practical Center for Disaster Medicine, the military-technical training center, the regional branches of “Medical Volunteers,” the Russian Red Cross, the All-Russian Student Rescue Corps, the Social Development Fund for the Media Space “NUS,” the public emergency rescue unit “Student Fire-Rescue Squad ‘Phoenix’,” and the “Pomogayka” academy.

About a hundred volunteers will show by their example how important it is to share knowledge and skills with others. They will prove that this can be done through volunteering at the resource center “Mosvolonter.”

One of the experts will be the volunteer Gleb Smetanin. He is the chief freelance specialist in providing first aid in the capital Department of Health, head of the educational and methodological department of the Moscow Territorial Scientific and Practical Center for Disaster Medicine, as well as a member of the Youth Council of Moscow Medicine. He has several hundred first aid master classes under his belt. For many years, he has been conducting classes for concerned citizens, and this year will be no exception.

“First aid is accessible, simple, and extremely important. The willingness to help is primarily about skills that allow you to feel confident in an emergency situation, so it is necessary to know the action algorithms before the ambulance arrives. Volunteer work is a part of my life,” shared the expert.
