Beijing, September 2 /Xinhua/ — The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) announced on Tuesday that meteorological services will be further strengthened to support rescue operations and disaster relief work at the Gyirong border checkpoint (Shigatse Autonomous Region, Southwest China), affected by a powerful mudslide.
The administration called on meteorological agencies at all levels to take responsibility and enhance monitoring, forecasting, early warning, and risk assessment to support rescue operations.
The CMU also called for strengthening coordination and cooperation between the country’s meteorological departments, autonomous regions, cities, and counties, as well as fully engaging specialized groups for meteorological service provision in emergencies and on-site expert teams.
According to one of the official representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, new technologies and methods will be used for monitoring, forecasting, early warning, and risk assessment in connection with potential weather phenomena in the area of rescue operations and adjacent territories.
The administration also promised to strengthen international cooperation and promote technological innovations to accelerate the improvement of risk assessment systems and emergency response capabilities.
According to the latest data from the people’s government of the SAR, on August 26 a deadly mudslide triggered by an ice-stone avalanche struck the Gyrong checkpoint, resulting in 16 deaths and 546 people reported missing. -0-
