Beijing, September 1 /Xinhua/ — The summer film season (June-August) in China in 2026 ended with a total box office revenue of nearly 12.5 billion yuan (1.84 billion US dollars), which is slightly higher than the 2025 figure of about 12 billion yuan. Thus, for the second consecutive year, an increase in box office revenue has been recorded, according to data published on Tuesday by the State Film Administration of China.
The number of cinema visits reached approximately 340 million, up from 321 million in 2025 and 284 million in 2024.
At the same time, the figures have not yet reached the record of the summer film season of 2023: then the box office amounted to 20.6 billion yuan, and the number of tickets sold was 504 million.
