Thanks to the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” by the beginning of the new school year, over 300 segments of regional and local roads leading to children’s recreational and educational institutions have been brought up to regulatory standards in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation participating in the national project. Their total length was about 1.3 thousand km. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

“A safe and comfortable route to educational institutions is an important task, on the solution of which the well-being of the younger generation depends. Within the framework of the national project ‘Infrastructure for Life’, we are systematically organizing approaches to educational institutions. This year, it is planned to bring more than 3.3 thousand km of roads leading to schools, kindergartens, as well as secondary specialized, higher, and other educational institutions up to standard. Work on 1.3 thousand km of them has been completed. The autumn period is ahead, it is important to maintain the pace and complete all planned works on time,” said Marat Khusnullin.

For example, in the Soviet district of Bryansk, under the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” Spartakovskaya Street (2.4 km) was repaired. It leads to a branch of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and school No. 6. Engineering networks were replaced, a two-layer asphalt pavement was laid with a top layer made of durable crushed stone mastic mixture, sidewalks, fences, traffic lights, and a speed bump were arranged. Thermoplastic marking with retro-reflectors was applied, and signs were installed.

In Marks, Saratov region, the repair of a 5-kilometer transit road (Dorozhnaya Street, Karl Marx, Kirov, Zagorodnaya Roscha) leading to the College of Arts, School No. 4, and the Out-of-School Work Center was completed ahead of schedule.

A 360-meter section of Gagarin Street (from Magistralnaya to Oblastnaya) in Izhevsk has been renovated – it leads to kindergarten No. 105. The foundation was reinforced, two layers of asphalt were laid, curbs were installed, drainage, a parking area, and sidewalks for strollers were constructed.

In the village of Uva in the Uvinsky district, 200 meters of Shkolnaya Street were repaired, connecting School No. 1 and Kindergarten No. 1. Fences appeared, a speed bump with a pedestrian crossing, and a flashing traffic light T7.

Regional routes for school buses are also being renovated. In the Sergievsky district of the Samara region, the road “Sergievsk – Bolshaya Chesnokovka – Kandabulak” – Krasnoselskoye (6.7 km) was repaired. This route daily transports children from Rovnoe, Spasskoye, and Kandabulak to the Krasnoselskaya school. At the residents’ requests, 500 meters of the main street in Krasnoselskoye – Sovetskaya Street – was also renovated. Two layers of asphalt were laid, shoulders strengthened, and thermoplastic road markings applied.

“A total of 758 road sections leading to schools and kindergartens, as well as to secondary vocational, higher, and other educational institutions, are planned to be constructed and brought up to standards this year. These include both city streets leading directly to educational institutions and school routes—regional and intermunicipal roads on which regular transportation of children from small settlements to schools and back is organized. To date, road work has already been completed on 325 such sections,” noted Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin.

Special attention is paid to road safety issues during the implementation of the national project.

“When carrying out work on school routes, road workers typically not only renew the pavement but also arrange pedestrian crossings and sidewalks, install traffic lights and barrier fences. Great attention is also paid to preventing child road traffic injuries, as well as to developing skills for safe behavior on roads. For example, supported by the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” an all-Russian online Olympiad “Safe Roads” is held annually, during which schoolchildren can learn and review the basic traffic rules,” emphasized the head of the Federal Road Agency, Roman Novikov.
