Budapest, April 12 /Xinhua/ — Parliamentary elections in Hungary started on Sunday at 06:00 local time /04:00 GMT/, with about 8.1 million voters entitled to vote participating, the National Election Office reported.
About 7.6 million voters can vote in person at more than 10 thousand polling stations across the country, while about 500 thousand voters who have the right to vote by mail have already started submitting their ballots.
Voting will be extended until 19:00, the counting of votes will begin after the closure of the polling stations, and the initial results are expected closer to the evening.
Five parties or alliances are participating in the election. The latest public opinion polls show relatively strong support for the ruling alliance in Hungary, “Fidesz” and the “Christian Democratic People’s Party,” led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, as well as the opposition party “Tisa,” led by Péter Magyar. –0–
