Capital Department of Culture determined the locations in the MosKino film park that film producers most often chose this summer. He also noted the sets that attracted the most interest from visitors to the film park.
From Historical Decorations to Computer Graphics
The leader in the number of shoots was the “Center of Moscow” location. In June and July, they worked there on the series “Golitsyn,” “Yugoslavia,” “By the Laws of Non-War Time,” “Secret Military Intelligence Missions,” as well as on the films “Execution” and “Circus.” In August site were involved in the project “Joseph Stalin. The Moment of Truth” and the second season of the comedy “Khutor”.
The “Airport” decoration, along with the pavilion where the interior of the “Boeing” was recreated, proved to be no less in demand. During the summer months, several projects were filmed here simultaneously, including “Hippocrate’s Oath,” “Deadly Vacation — 2,” “Namaste, Magadan,” “Chelyabinsk Raja,” “The Gone,” “He Was Older Than Her,” “Yugoslavia,” “Summer Ball,” and “Yolki-13.”
Among the consistently popular venues is the Vitebsky railway station. During the summer, projects such as “Execution”, “Golitsyn”, “He Was Older Than Her”, “Joseph Stalin. Moment of Truth”, “Yugoslavia”, “Unit 731”, and “Hanna” were worked on there. At the same time, the station’s interior pavilion with train cars was entirely given over to the production of the series “Golitsyn” throughout the summer.
Historical sets are of particular interest to film crews. For instance, the “Capital Medieval City” set was used in July for shooting “Sadko,” and in August for “The Battle of Molodi,” “The Field of Kulikovo,” “Very Fairy Tales,” and “Daniil of Moscow.” In August, work on “The Battle of Molodi” and “Very Fairy Tales” was carried out on the “Cathedral Square.”
The film park locations allow shooting movies that reflect not only Russian historical eras. For example, the sets of “Provincial Cities of Europe” were used in the projects “Toothy Nanny,” “Dubrovsky. The Russian Zorro,” and “Sleeping Beauty.” On the “Cities of the Middle East and Central Asia” set, scenes for “Golitsyn,” “The Field of Kulikovo,” “Very Fairy Affairs,” as well as fragments of the film “Hard to Be a God” were shot.
In addition to the natural locations, the modern infrastructure of the film park played an important role in the summer shooting season. The natural chroma key, which allows combining live acting with computer graphics, was in high demand. In July, the film “Seagull” about Valentina Tereshkova and the series “Yugoslavia” were filmed here, and in August — “Kulikovo Field” and “Settlement.”
The 20-meter-high multifunctional film shooting pavilion received a high workload. Filming began here for the project “Beirut,” and work was also underway on individual scenes of the series “Yugoslavia.”
From the film set to a tourist attraction
You can visit the MosKino film park starting from excursion. The dual-use mode of the venues is a feature of its operation — filming can take place here, and in free time, tours are conducted at the same locations. This approach has become a key principle of the MosKino film park. The infrastructure for film production simultaneously serves as a cultural and tourist attraction.
Among the sets most frequently visited by guests were “Vitebsky Station” and “Port City.” The sites “Cities of the Middle East and Central Asia” and “European Cities” were also popular among tour groups.
The summer season confirmed the strong interest in the film park from a wide range of film projects — from large-scale productions to niche works. It combines ready natural sets, allowing for the quick creation of recognizable screen environments, with modern studios suitable for technically complex shoots. Thanks to this, the film park becomes not just a place uniting shooting locations but a full-fledged production infrastructure where a wide variety of artistic and technological solutions can be implemented sequentially.
The Moscow film cluster is infrastructure facilities, services, and support for filmmakers, which Government of Moscow develops as part of the “Moscow — City of Cinema” project. Its structure includes the Moskino Film Park, the Gorky Film Studio (locations on Sergei Eisenstein Street and Valdaysky Drive), the Moskino film factory, the Moskino cinema network, the Moscow Film Commission, and the Moscow Film Platform.
Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Tatyana Golikova, and Sergey Sobyanin opened new filming sites at the MosKino film park. They also met with film industry professionals working there.
