Sun, excitement, support from loved ones, and the desire to win. In such an atmosphere, the sports competition “Big Family” was held at the State University of Management.
After several rainy days, the weather gave participants a real gift: the competitions were held under bright sunshine and brought together staff of the State University of Management and their families.
Opening the sports festival, the rector of the State University of Management, Vladimir Stroev, noted that its name was chosen deliberately. The State University of Management is truly a big family, uniting thousands of people. And the competition became another reason to meet outside of working offices, spend time together, and test how well the teams can act collectively.
From archery to a giant puzzle
The participants faced a whole series of challenges, where athletic training alone was not enough. Somewhere accuracy and strength mattered, somewhere speed, and somewhere only coordinated teamwork could bring victory.
The teams shot arrows, competed in ring toss, long jumped, and tried to score a goal from a penalty kick. One of the challenges was a large puzzle with the GUU logo, which had to be assembled as quickly as possible.
And for those who found the main program insufficient, additional activities were offered: one could try knife throwing or test their own strength by lifting a kettlebell.
But the main competition of the day was the fight for the prize-winning places.
Who turned out to be the strongest
The first place was taken by the “Kindergarten” team from the Marketing Center. This victory was especially unexpected for them — the team was participating in the competition for the first time.
“This year we participated for the first time and did not expect to win at all. We really liked the atmosphere. We prepared merch in advance, which also helped to create a team spirit. Our relatives were with us, which made the celebration truly friendly and family-like.”
“It was one of the brightest and most positive days in recent times. We are very happy to have participated and won,” said the head of the marketing attraction department, Yana Zavyalova.
Second place was won by the team “Granite of Science,” which brought together representatives of the scientific division of GUU.
The Head of the Scientific Research Coordination Department, Maksim Pletnev, noted that the competition became not only an opportunity to fight for victory but also a genuine university team-building event.
“Team building united the entire university and demonstrated a high level of team spirit and cohesion. We received a huge amount of emotions, and some employees revealed a completely new side of themselves to us. We wish for the event to develop each year and involve more and more colleagues,” said Maxim Pletnev.
Third place went to the “Finiki” team from the Financial Planning Department.
The secret of the “Phoenix” success was clearly formulated by the Director of the Financial Planning Department, Ekaterina Lapshina: “We won thanks to the cohesion of the department, morning exercise, and team erudition.”
However, the awards were not limited to just the podium in some places. The organizers recognized the teams that stood out most vividly during the day.
The team “Jumping into the volcano” received the nomination “Crew ‘One for All’ of GUU”, “Constellation” became the “Good Mood Bureau of GUU”, and the winners of the “Kindergarten” competition additionally received the title “Sprint Academy of GUU”.
The “Organizers’ Choice” award went to the ‘Molniya’ team, the title of “GUU Titans” was given to the ‘Granite of Science’ team, and the “GUU Smiles” were awarded to ‘Molodezhka’. The ‘Watermelons’ team became the “Stars of the Day,” and the ‘Rodents’ were named the “Legends of GUU.”
The sports competition “Big Family” turned out to be not so much a story about seconds, meters, and points scored, but about people. On this day, colleagues became teammates, and the usual university space transformed into a large sports ground.
And the name of the holiday confirmed its meaning once again: GUU is indeed a big family.
