Beijing, August 28 /Xinhua/ — The body of Chen Wu, Vice Chairman of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was cremated on Friday in Beijing.
The Chairman of the PRC, Xi Jinping, together with other high-ranking party and state leaders, including Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng, saw Chen Wu off on his final journey at the revolutionary cemetery “Babaoshan” on Friday morning.
To mournful music, they slowly approached Chen Wu’s body and stood in solemn silence. Then they paid their respects by bowing to the deceased’s body three times, and afterward shook hands with Chen Wu’s relatives.
Chen Wu passed away as a result of illness on August 24 in Beijing at the age of 72.
Chen Wu was an outstanding member of the CPC, a loyal fighter for the ideals of communism, as well as an outstanding leader in advancing work on national issues and promoting economic construction.
Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, Han Zheng, and Hu Jintao, as well as others, either personally visited Chen Wu during his hospital stay or expressed deep sorrow and sincere condolences to the family of the deceased in various forms after his passing.
