Specialists urban utilities complex have begun the rehabilitation of the Bolshoy Meshchersky Pond in the west of the capital. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov.
“The Bolshoy Meshchersky Pond in the Solntsevo area is part of a cascade of ponds in the upper reaches of the Navershka River, and for many years it has remained a favorite leisure spot for the local residents. However, during an inspection, it was found that the reservoir is in unsatisfactory condition: large volumes of silt deposits have accumulated at the bottom, and erosion of the shoreline is observed. Therefore, a decision was made to carry out a comprehensive rehabilitation of the pond, with work to be completed in 2027,” noted Petr Biryukov.
During the work on the reservoir with an area of more than nine hectares, it is planned to extract about 40 thousand cubic meters of silt deposits using a dredger. The water level will be lowered only partially, which will help preserve the established ecosystem.
Specialists will also restore the shoreline stretching over 1.5 kilometers. The natural slopes will be reinforced with crushed stone and vegetative soil, and the reliability of the reinforced concrete structure will be ensured by applying cement mortar under pressure. The existing timber crib wall will be replaced with new larch logs. In the final stage, three bio-plateau zones will be created in different parts of the water body, and aquatic plants will be planted in them.
Specialists regularly inspect the capital’s water bodies. When problems are identified, a decision is made to carry out rehabilitation. The list of water bodies is compiled annually taking into account the wishes of Muscovites.
