Beijing, August 27 /Xinhua/ — Official spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of the PRC Zhang Xiaogan on Thursday warned about the dangerous intentions of Japan’s right-wing forces, commenting on the country’s recent military activities.
Zhang Xiaogan made the corresponding statement in connection with a number of Japan’s military activities, including the planned expansion of the staff of the Japanese Ministry of Defense, the plan to equip Japanese unmanned underwater vehicles with long-range missiles, as well as the agreement between Japan and Australia to test a Japanese hypersonic missile on Australian territory.
He reminded that Japan, as a country defeated in World War II, is prohibited from possessing offensive weapons in accordance with the Potsdam Declaration and its own pacifist constitution. Nevertheless, as the official representative noted, in recent years the country has accelerated its process of “remilitarization” and has begun to demonstratively increase its military power and expand its arsenal of weapons.
“If a country that in the past actively waged aggressive wars and has never truly rethought its historical crimes is allowed to rearm and become a ‘state capable of conducting war,’ a historical tragedy may repeat itself,” noted Zhang Xiaogan.
