This summer, within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation signed between the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the NAO “Toraighyrov University” (Kazakhstan), members of the student archaeological team (SAT) “Lin” from our university took part in an archaeological expedition in Kazakhstan.
The Semiyarsky detachment of the archaeological expedition of Toraygyrov University, with the participation of our students, conducted research in the vicinity of the village of Zhetizhar in the Beskaragay district of the Abai region of Kazakhstan. Work was carried out at the Semiyarka settlement (City of Seven Ravines) of the Late Bronze Age. The remains of metallurgical sites and residential structures were studied.
In addition, members of the archaeological team from SPbGASU took part in excavations as part of the “Great Altai” project of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaistics and Turkology at Altai State University (AltGU). The project is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.
The work was carried out in various districts of Altai. One of the significant directions was research in the Charyshsky district of the Altai Territory near the village of Sentelek, at the monument “Balchikova Tract 3.” For five years, the northern periphery of a unique burial ground—the only known site of the Pazyryk culture in the Altai Territory—has been under study here. In the current season, scientists continued examining objects from different time periods. The excavation organizers highly appreciated the help of the students.
SPbGASU has a rich tradition of squad movements. Currently, the university has nine student squads of various profiles that provide students with jobs during the summer period while simultaneously helping them gain professional experience, teamwork skills, and valuable connections.
