Wuhan, August 27 /Xinhua/ — The special exhibition “Treasures of the Kremlin: From Peter I to Catherine II”, which opened on July 20 at the Hubei Provincial Museum /Central China/, featuring 129 exhibits /complexes/ of Russian royal relics, is attracting an increasing number of enthusiasts of Russian culture and history. This indicates the continuously expanding humanitarian exchanges between China and Russia.
The exhibition includes valuable cultural relics from the 17th-18th centuries from the collection of the Museums of the Moscow Kremlin /MMK/, including royal regalia, state awards, ceremonial costumes, weapons, silver tableware, and other items.
This exhibition, which will run until October 25, covers more than 170 years of history – from the founding of the Romanov dynasty in the early 17th century to the reign of Catherine II in the late 18th century, vividly recreating the glorious path of the Russian Empire from formation and reforms to flourishing.
The CEO of MMK, Elena Gagarina, speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, said that she is very pleased to introduce the Chinese public to the bright and glorious pages of Russian history, and expressed confidence that the exhibition will make an important contribution to deepening cultural dialogue, thereby giving new impulse to strengthening the friendly neighborly relations between the peoples of the two countries.
Deputy Consul General of the Russian Federation in Wuhan Dmitry Petrov noted at the opening ceremony of the exhibition that bringing the valuable collection of MMK to the exhibition in Wuhan allows the local audience to see the unique charm of the treasures of Russian culture, and also demonstrates the aspiration to strengthen cultural exchanges between Russia and China.
The curator from the Chinese side of this exhibition, Wei Mian, a staff member of the Exhibitions Department of the Hubei Provincial Museum, noted that during the preparation for the exhibition, the Chinese and Russian teams maintained close contact on the selection of exhibits, the development of the exhibition layout, as well as the transportation and storage of cultural valuables, in order to present the audience with the charm of this collection of imperial jewels in the most perfect and exquisite form.
“The implementation of this international exhibition took several years, and during this time we established sincere and deep friendships with Russian specialists, and this is the most valuable acquisition we obtained besides the exhibition itself,” she added.
As a national multidisciplinary museum, the Hubei Provincial Museum relies on local cultural resources and continuously intensifies humanitarian exchanges with Russian institutions in the field of culture and museology.
The Head of the Cultural Heritage Protection Department of Hubei Province, Chen Fei, stated that over many years, Hubei Province and Russian institutions in the fields of culture and museology have created a strong and long-term bridge of cooperation using cultural heritage as a connecting link.
The Director of the Hubei Provincial Museum, Zhang Xiaoyun, noted that since 2014, when the Hubei Provincial Museum held its first exhibition in Russia, cooperation in this field between the parties has become increasingly close, and a number of cooperation outcomes, including joint exhibitions, academic conferences, and mutual specialist visits, clearly demonstrate the development of cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
“The Hubei Provincial Museum actively participates in international cultural exchanges. We especially often interact with Russian institutions in the fields of culture and museology. We have established friendly and close relationships with many well-known Russian museums, including the MMK,” said Zhang Xiaoyun, expressing confidence that this exhibition has undoubtedly become another important milestone in their friendly cooperation.
