On the eve of the new academic year, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University organized a celebration of knowledge for the children of its employees. More than 70 future first graders attended the event. This has become a new university tradition: the festive start of the school journey for members of the large family of polytechnic students took place for the third time.
Our mission is to make the corporate culture of Polytech all-encompassing, because our university is an environment of growth and opportunities for everyone who comes into contact with it. Therefore, we create events not only for employees and students but also for their families. We want the children of our employees to feel like part of the big family of Polytech members. When a first-grader comes to us not just as a guest, but as a future heir to our engineering school, they absorb this spirit through performances, quizzes, communication with peers, and getting to know Polytech. Today they are schoolchildren, tomorrow—our potential students, and the day after tomorrow—a new generation of engineers who will continue the glorious traditions of Polytech,
The event took place in the research building of “Technopolis Polytech.” The children sang songs from their favorite cartoons, danced to cheerful music, and made new friends. The characters from the fairy tale “The Golden Key”—Burattino, Malvina, Arlecchino, cat Basilio, and fox Alice—led interactive games, performed magic tricks, and organized a quiz on popular cartoons. Guests also included Shrek and Fiona, Tom and Jerry, and an Indian dancing elephant.
The organizer of the holiday event for first graders was the Human Resources Directorate of SPbPU.
You are entering the school of “life’s wonders.” There you will learn to turn scribbles into letters and numbers, cope with difficulties, solve problems, and make sincere, lasting friendships. In your backpacks, you will find what will help you in your studies, — greeted the children the head of the Personnel Department Maria Pakhomova.
The kids were given balloons and backpacks, in which they found a bag for change of shoes, a notebook, a drawing album, a water bottle, markers, pencils, an eraser, a pencil case, a ruler, a pass holder, a badge lanyard, a sports T-shirt, a sticker pack, and a reflector.
Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Service and Trade at IPMEiT Andrey Yakovlev — father of five children, the youngest of whom is starting first grade this year, shared his impressions: The event is wonderful. It’s a pity there weren’t such events before. Many thanks to the organizers for this celebration. All the children were very happy and cheerful.

Yakov Gataulin, assistant at the Higher School of Applied Mathematics and Computational Physics at PhyzMat, shared his impressions: I believe it is very important to hold such events for children. A child is always nervous before something new, and this helps them relax and get into a positive mood. We expected to see a more modest celebration, but here was such a scale: gifts, performers, and treats! It was so much fun that even I felt like a child again.
