On the stage of the Pushkin Embankment in Gorky Park on August 28 will take place performance-concert “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. It will be shown as part of the project “Gorky+”. The event will take place during the III International Open Festival “Theatrical Boulevard”, which is included in the ‘Summer in Moscow’ program.
In director Marina Brusnikina’s interpretation, Shakespeare’s comedy will acquire a contemporary resonance. The production will feature People’s Artist of Russia Evgeny Mironov, actress Alexandra Ursulyak, and the State Symphony Orchestra “New Russia” conducted by the conductor and artistic director Yuri Bashmet. On August 30 at 7:00 PM, theatrical performances will be presented simultaneously at two venues. At Pushkin Embankment, the “Red Torch” theater from Novosibirsk will perform the play “Romeo and Juliet”. Director Mark Bukin offers an unconventional interpretation of the Shakespearean tragedy: the characters’ monologues are transformed into zonged pieces, performed by the actors with live accompaniment by a musical ensemble. The production made it to the longlist of the best performances of the 2023/2024 season according to the expert council of the Golden Mask award and festival.
At the same time, on Chistoprudny Boulevard on the VTB stage “Classics Inspire,” the “Osoznyak Demidova” theater from Kazan will present the play “Gorky. Optimism” director Artem Ustinov. The production is based on the real correspondence between Maxim Gorky and 16-year-old worker Leonid Khinkulov. Through their dialogue, a clash of faith and reality, ideals and doubts is revealed, prompting reflection on the nature of “bitter optimism.”

“Theatre Boulevard”
The third season of the “Theatrical Boulevard” festival takes place from May 30 to August 30, 2026, with the support of the capital Department of Culture.
The festival venues opened in iconic city locations: on Pushkin Embankment in Gorky Park, at the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, on Pokrovsky and Chistoprudny Boulevards, as well as in the Museum Park of the Polytechnic Museum. Special attention is deserved by the traveling stage “Diligence.” On weekends, it appears in parks in various districts of Moscow.
