Qingdao, August 26 /Xinhua/ — In recent years, relying on the construction of the China-SCO Regional Trade and Economic Cooperation Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the “China-SCO Demonstration Zone”), the city of Qingdao (Shandong Province, East China) has been deepening trade, economic, and cultural cooperation with SCO countries in the practice of China’s modernization, improving international logistics corridors, implementing innovative trade and investment models, and expanding exchanges between different civilizations.
Leveraging the advantages of an integrated maritime, land, and air transport hub, Qingdao city is making every effort to create a regional logistics center, forming a multi-level logistics network covering the Eurasian continent.
As reported by the China-SCO Demonstration Zone, an international nodal port of the SCO has been established in the zone, which received the UN international port code “CNJZH” and has been recognized as a national logistics hub for both trade-service and aviation types. Overseas freight train consolidation centers have been set up in Belgrade, Almaty, Moscow, and Vientiane, and a complete service system of “corridors + hubs + overseas warehouses” has been formed.
In addition, the scale of the logistics corridors being created by the China-SCO Demonstration Zone continues to expand. A well-established logistics system creates a solid foundation for expanding and enhancing the quality of trade. Qingdao consistently strengthens its modern trading center by implementing multifaceted measures to expand trade space with SCO countries.
According to the Qingdao Department of Commerce, the city has developed 14 individualized support measures in the field of economy and trade. Thanks to this set of measures, business entities in the trade sector continue to establish themselves in the China-SCO Demonstration Zone: in total, several Chinese and foreign trading companies have been attracted, including the leading Russian e-commerce platform Wildberries.
Data show that in the first half of 2026, the volume of imports and exports of Qingdao with other SCO member states reached 54.38 billion yuan, which is 20.4 percent more compared to the same period last year, while exports and imports of the China-SCO Demonstration Zone with these countries amounted to 5.85 billion yuan, growing by 71 percent.
Alongside deepening economic and trade cooperation, Qingdao consistently strengthens the humanitarian foundation.
According to the Institute of Economics and Trade of the SCO, the institute has organized over 400 training courses attended by more than 27,000 people, and has established a mechanism for international educational cooperation with more than 30 universities from SCO countries. The international expo center “Qingdao-SCO Pearl,” which is the first base in the country for familiarizing with the cultures of SCO countries, showcases the cultural specifics of these countries, having hosted a total of about 2 million visitors.
Being an important international public product, the China-SCO Demonstration Zone, relying on the urban platform of Qingdao, continues to expand its functions by creating platforms and offering solutions, providing stable support for high-quality regional cooperation within the SCO framework.
