The third season of the “Summer Workshop” — a free recreational program for children of participants in the special military operation (SMO) — has concluded in Moscow. Over three months, the children tried their hand at science, creativity, sports, and learned more about modern professions. This was reported by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.
“Support for participants of the special military operation and their families is one of the capital’s main priorities. We are building systematic support both for the fighters and veterans themselves and for their relatives. For the third year in a row, we have been running a free leisure program for the children of the operation’s participants. It takes place at the Unified Support Center. This season, the program included thematic shifts, practical lessons, and off-site events. The kids had a busy summer: they engaged in robotics, studied the country’s history and culture through interactive sessions, and tried their hand as animators, screenwriters, and artists. Throughout, mentors and teachers were by their side, supporting the children and helping them open up, believe in their abilities, and learn to work as a team,” noted Anastasia Rakova.
The participants of the “Summer Workshop” were children from two age groups — from seven to nine years old and from ten to twelve years old. Thematic shifts with creative, educational, sports, and career guidance activities were organized for them. These took place on weekdays in the first half of the day.
The first shift was dedicated to science and discoveries. The kids conducted experiments, grew crystals, got acquainted with the basics of robotics, and created their own projects.
During the “Russia Week,” children studied the country’s history and culture through interactive classes, creative workshops, and team games. The program “Around the World in Five Days” introduced them to the traditions of different countries. The young participants made woven candles, painted amulets, crafted dreamcatchers, learned origami and bead weaving techniques, and also learned to create three-dimensional pictures from air-dry clay.
A separate week was dedicated to the world of animation. In the sessions of “Multlyandiya,” children learned how cartoons are created, tried themselves as animator artists, participated in master classes on clay animation, and also transformed into their favorite characters with the help of face painting. The themed shift “Creative Mix” introduced the children to the world of theater and cinema. Participants studied acting and oratory skills.
Great attention was paid to career guidance. As part of the “World of Professions” module, schoolchildren got acquainted with the work of an architect, rescuer, and firefighter. A highlight was a tour of an active fire station. The children saw special equipment, visited the cab of a fire truck, and interacted with rescue service personnel.
The final shift was dedicated to an active lifestyle. The children took part in relays, team competitions, and sports games, learned about the history of Olympic sports, and discussed how sports help develop discipline and responsibility. Additionally, Russian basketball champion and Olympic Games participant Viktor Keyru visited the children. Under his guidance, the kids practiced dribbling and passing the ball, shooting, footwork, joined in game exercises and a basketball challenge, and after the training, they talked with the athlete about his path in professional sports.
