Participants of the “Yakimanka with You!” project have made about 100 humanitarian trips to the zone of the special military operation (SMO), to border and new territories of Russia. Military personnel are supplied with automotive and motorcycle equipment, communication devices, protective gear, and other necessary items. Activists have been assisting SMO fighters since 2022. At the project headquarters, the production of camouflage nets and other in-demand products is already established.
The movement “Yakimanka with you!” was created by concerned residents and public advisers of the Central Administrative District in 2020. Initially, it included about 10 people. Now it has more than two thousand participants — this includes, besides activists from the Yakimanka district, municipal deputies, members of the veterans’ council, teaching staffs and school students, as well as parishioners of the Life-Giving Trinity Church on Shabolovka.
According to one of the initiators and coordinators of the project, Andrey Prokopenkov, initially the participants helped people who were especially in need of support during the pandemic, primarily representatives of the older generation. Since 2022, the activists have started providing assistance to the soldiers of the special military operation and residents of the border and newly acquired territories of Russia.
Gradually, the geography of the project participants’ trips expanded. It came to include Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Kursk regions, as well as the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. Activists send shipments once or twice a month. The parcels contain essential items: food, building materials, tools, camouflage nets, helmets, bulletproof vests, radios, vehicles, electronic warfare equipment, and much more. For residents of border and new territories, Muscovites send clothing, furniture, toys, and stationery.
“Yakimanka is with you!” is not just a name. It is a joint effort of dozens of activists — those who, after their workday, come to make camouflage nets, those who put a piece of their soul into every package. We understood the main thing: people need not so much a flashlight or warm socks, but the assurance that they are remembered here, in the capital,” adds Andrey Prokopenkov.
