The first Scientific Council of the State University of Management after the summer holidays opened the new academic year. At the meeting, they discussed the progress of the admissions campaign, support for students, preparation of dormitories, and other university life matters.
As is tradition, the meeting began with a ceremonial part. Tatiana Ovchinnikova was awarded an honorary diploma from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for conscientious and effective work. All the July and August birthday celebrants were also congratulated, among them Rector Vladimir Stroev.
Next, the rector of GUU, Vladimir Stroev, moved on to the agenda of the meeting. The members of the Academic Council approved the work plan for the new academic year, considered issues of scholarship provision, and conducted a competitive selection to fill vacant teaching positions.
The admissions campaign is entering the home stretch
One of the central topics of the meeting was university admissions. Vadim Dikikh, Director of the Department of Digital Admissions and Transfers to the University, presented preliminary results of the campaign.
This year, both the number of applications and the competition have increased significantly. The number of applications already exceeds last year’s figure by 15,000, and the admission campaign is still ongoing. High demand is also observed for both the separate and special quotas.
The increase in competition also affected the passing scores. Vadim Dikikh noted an increase in scores for paid admission: compared to last year, the indicator rose by 18 points. At the same time, for about 1.4 thousand bachelor’s degree places, the university has already received more than 1.9 thousand payments.
Advisor to the Rectorate Nikolai Mikhailov thanked everyone working with applicants: members of the admissions committee, consultants, operators, and volunteers. While in the first weeks about 20–40 people contacted the admissions committee daily, by the end of the main stage the flow significantly increased — on one of the last days the university received about 170 visitors.
“People want to study with us“, — noted Nikolai Mikhailov.
Vladimir Stroev emphasized that the final results of the admission campaign will be presented at the next meeting of the Academic Council. By that time, the full picture of admissions, including the ongoing postgraduate enrollment, will become clear.

Another important outcome was the university’s effort to engage students in competitions for state and named scholarships.
Maria Karelina, Vice-Rector for Research at GUU, reported that this year the university has significantly intensified this work. GUU submitted 62 applications for the Government of the Russian Federation scholarship competition. Forty-one students became winners, which is 66% of the total number of candidates.
The result was a noticeable step forward compared to previous years. The university plans to continue systematically helping students prepare applications for Government and Presidential scholarships of Russia, as well as named scholarships.
“The guys are already ready, they just need a little help“, — emphasized Vladimir Stroev, noting that such victories are important not only as financial support for students but also as an indicator of the quality of their academic and scientific work.
Preparation for the new academic year
A separate session block was dedicated to the university’s social and educational policy.
Vice-Rector of GUU Vitaliy Lapshenkov spoke about preparations for the active period of student move-in to dormitories. The Academic Council reviewed the updated rules of residence as well as issues related to providing discounts on accommodation.
The Vice-Rector of GUU, Dmitry Bryukhanov, presented proposals for support measures for certain categories of applicants, including the possibility of providing a 100 percent discount and developing a special support program. Educational program costs and issues related to discounts on tuition were also discussed.
The first meeting after the summer break outlined the main tasks for the start of the new academic year. In the coming weeks, the university will complete the admissions campaign and dormitory move-ins, form study groups, and continue efforts to expand student support opportunities.
