Beijing, August 25 /Xinhua/ — Chinese lawmakers on Tuesday began reviewing a medical insurance draft law, which includes provisions on long-term care insurance and other measures aimed at further strengthening the protection of the rights and interests of insured persons.
Currently, this bill is presented for consideration in the third reading at the ongoing 24th session of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress /NPC/ of the 14th convocation.
The next, 24th session of the NPC Standing Committee of the 14th convocation is taking place from Tuesday to Friday.
During the previous consideration of the draft in the framework of the second reading and public consultation held in April of this year, it was proposed to include provisions concerning long-term care insurance. Taking this into account, the draft law submitted for the third reading includes provisions providing for the creation and improvement of the long-term care insurance system in the country.
The document also provides that specific measures concerning the financing and operation of the long-term care insurance system, payment guarantees, fund utilization, supervision, and management shall be developed by the administrative body of the State Council’s Medical Security under the guidance of the relevant departments of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, taking into account the provisions of this law relating to basic medical insurance.
