Specialists of the capital urban infrastructure complex the Small Stone Bridge is being reconstructed. Currently, sandblasting of the surfaces is underway to prepare them for repairs, and cable lines are being installed for architectural and artistic lighting. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov.
“The Small Stone Bridge was built as an extension of the Big Stone Bridge in 1937–1938 and connected Balchug Island with Zamoskvorechye. An inspection revealed that over the years the structure had sustained damage, caused in part by heavy traffic loads. Consequently, a decision was made to carry out reconstruction. We plan to complete the work next year; it is proceeding alongside the construction of the pedestrian bridge on Bolotnaya Embankment,” noted Petr Biryukov.
As part of the project, the span slabs will be repaired with a complete replacement of the road surface, waterproofing, and expansion joints. In addition, the granite cladding of the structure and the parapet fence will be renewed. The reconstruction will restore the main load-bearing characteristics of the bridge’s structural elements and ensure its continued safe operation.
The head of the municipal utilities complex stated that a complete closure of traffic during the repairs is not planned — restrictions will be introduced gradually with partial lane closures.
Over the past 14 years, every bridge facility in the capital has undergone various types of repairs, which not only extended their service life but also created more comfortable conditions for motorists and pedestrians.
