Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko and Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin launched the construction of a new educational complex with dormitories for MSTU “STANKIN” in the Kommunarka district, and also assessed the progress of work on creating the main competence center for the machine-tool industry.
“We are launching the construction of a scientific and educational center which will be part of the emerging ecosystem of the MSTU ‘Stankin’ campus here. This is one of the leading engineering universities in our country. The task set before us now by the President of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin – technological leadership – requires a multiple increase in efforts to create technologies and train personnel. Moscow is creating a unique facility in the best, most promising location where people will study, work, and engage in science and production. I thank the Moscow government and personally Sergey Semyonovich Sobyanin for their assistance in creating such facilities. There is already a first flagship successful experience in building world-class campuses – the N.E. Bauman MSTU, and by the President’s directive, there should be 40 of them across the country by 2036,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that, on the instruction of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, funding from the federal budget will also be allocated for the creation of a new campus. He also added that the number of students at “Stankin” will be doubled. In addition, the campus will be adjacent to a large number of complementary facilities for technology development, including the main competence center for the machine-tool industry and a college.
In turn, Sergey Sobyanin emphasized that the country’s technological independence is impossible without the development of machine tool building, and the industry has not developed very well in recent decades.
“By the order of the President, a new machine tool building center is being created here in Kommunarka, consisting of facilities: this is a competence center that is being built and will be commissioned next year; this is the new university campus ‘Stankina’ that we are laying down today. Here, in the campus, there is everything – from science and study to sports, leisure, and student housing,” said the mayor.
He thanked the graduates of ‘Stankin’ – the Chairman of the Government of Russia Mikhail Mishustin and his deputy Dmitry Chernyshenko, who “went through this whole path in their time.”
“This is our joint project with the Government of the Russian Federation. I am confident that we will succeed. The start of construction can be given,” concluded Sergey Sobyanin.
The head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Valery Falkov, in turn, noted that the creation of such a campus is an opportunity to develop engineering and technical education at a qualitatively new level.
“In the first half of the 20th century, MSTU “Stankin” accomplished a crucial task, becoming a necessary element in the formation of the machine-tool industry. Today, a reformatting of the entire machine-tool industry of our country is taking place, and the university is also being completely renewed in every single direction without exception,” emphasized the minister.
He added that MGTU “Stankin” has a proud history; in 2030 the university will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
“The creation of a new high-tech campus, its first facility, the main competency center for the machine-tool industry, is a crucial stage in the university’s development, made possible thanks to the support of the Government of Russia and the Government of Moscow. Together we are building a modern ecosystem where research results will be immediately implemented in real production. For MSTU ‘STANKIN,’ this is a powerful impetus: new laboratories and modern educational formats will allow us to reach a fundamentally new level and prepare engineers who will determine the technological future of the country,” said MSTU ‘STANKIN’ rector Boris Padalkin.
The construction of the main competence center for the machine tool industry is being carried out on the territory of the administrative and business center “Kommunarka” within the framework of Moscow city’s Targeted Investment Program.
The main competence center for the machine tool industry is intended to become a large scientific, educational, and production complex that will ensure Russia’s technological sovereignty in machine tool building, including establishing a full production cycle of equipment for the industry, implementing advanced technologies, and training qualified personnel.
The new center will house research and production laboratories for research and development, a design bureau, reverse engineering and production systems engineering centers, and metal-cutting tool testing centers. Here specialists, including students from MSTU “Stankin,” will be able to develop and create experimental models of various types of machine tools.
