Beijing, August 23 /Xinhua/ — China has formed a national delegation to participate in the 48th WorldSkills Competition, the world championship of professional skills, which will be held in Shanghai in September, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China announced on Sunday.
The Chinese delegation consists of 220 people, including 71 competition participants who will compete in all 64 disciplines of the event. The participants represent 21 provinces of the country; 49 of them are students, 22 are working professionals. The average age of the participants is 21 years, with all of them being in the age group from 18 to 25 years.
The WorldSkills Competition, held every two years, is the world’s largest international showcase of professional talents. This year’s event will take place in Shanghai from September 22 to 27. Approximately 1,400 contestants from nearly 70 countries and regions are expected to participate.
Since joining WorldSkills International in 2010, China has participated in seven previous championships, winning a total of 93 gold, 41 silver, and 28 bronze medals, as well as 71 medals for outstanding achievements. The country took first place both in the number of gold medals and in the overall team standings for four consecutive competitions.
The competitions cover a wide range of professional skills divided into six main categories: manufacturing and engineering technologies, information and communication technologies, construction technologies, transport and logistics, artistic creativity and fashion, as well as social and personal services.
The competition program features 64 types of professional skills, including seven new ones such as software testing and unmanned aerial systems. The main focus is on practical work; theoretical exams are generally not provided, participants only perform practical tasks.
The official representative of the Chinese delegation stated that the team will strictly adhere to the competition rules, perform honestly and in the spirit of sportsmanship, strive to demonstrate both a high level of skills and a positive image, as well as showcase the expertise and professionalism of young qualified Chinese workers.
Official outfits for the delegation for the awards ceremony and sportswear for the competitions were also presented. Both outfits are inspired by the technique of joining wooden construction parts, widely used in ancient Chinese architecture, and reflect the heritage of craftsmanship and cultural confidence.
