Jinan, August 21 /Xinhua/ — One person died and two others are missing as a result of an explosion that occurred on Friday in a residential building in the city of Linyi /Shandong Province, East China/.

According to the statement of the joint operational group formed after the incident, the explosion occurred at 15:38 in a standalone one-story residential building in the Wanciao neighborhood of the New District of Yihe.

The injured were taken to the hospital for medical care; their lives are not in danger. Search and rescue operations and clearing of the incident site are ongoing.

It is stated that, as shown by the preliminary investigation, the explosion was presumably caused by explosives that the tenant illegally stored for use in fishing.

By now, all residents of the neighboring residential buildings have been provided with temporary accommodation. The investigation into the causes of the incident and the mitigation of its consequences are ongoing. –0–
