Moscow, April 10 /Xin Hua/ — Space should become a realm of cooperation, trust, and joint development. Experts said this at the Russian Space Forum held in Moscow on Thursday.
“Space should become a realm of cooperation, trust, and joint development,” is the conviction of the chairman of the aerospace committee of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, Baubek Oralmagambetov. According to him, the future of outer space is not confrontation or competition. Its foundation must be international norms and agreements.
China and Russia are leaders in the peaceful exploration of space and propose a number of large and promising international projects for the implementation of this direction.
China and Russia are developing cooperation in the lunar program. “We have great potential in the exploration of the Moon and other planets — Venus, as well as in the field of solar-terrestrial physics, which we also engage in, and in the field of astrophysics, deep space, space telescopes,” said Lev Zeleny, the scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He clarified that Russian instruments for studying lunar dust and the exosphere have been installed on the Chinese landers “Chang’e-7” and “Chang’e-8,” and this is very important.
Vice President of the NRC “Kurchatov Institute” Alexander Blagov noted that Russia and China are combining efforts to create a lunar energy module. According to the expert, the two countries truly have many historical roots from the perspective of scientific developments, so it will be easier for Russia and China to understand each other and build a cooperation program.
As indicated by Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kotov, the Russian-Chinese cooperation encompasses not only the lunar program but is also developing in the fields of space medicine and biology. “Russian-Chinese cooperation has deep roots. We continue our work, including in the areas of space medicine, biology, crew training, and planning the execution of space flights,” he said.
“China has a very large technological reserve. Russia has quite extensive scientific fundamental knowledge. By combining these efforts, we can significantly advance the medical-biological sphere in space,” the expert added.
The Deputy Director of the Department of State Youth Policy and Educational Activities of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Alexander Vedenin, reported that Russia and China have agreed to jointly develop the creation of small spacecraft. “We have plans to develop this project within the SCO and BRICS starting from 2027. This is in our plan. And this needs to be done,” he emphasized.
China has become one of the world leaders in the space industry, and this is recognized worldwide. “China has already become one of the leading space powers in all areas—from launch vehicles to meteorology and navigation. China has created a potential that the whole world is seeking, and this opens up broad opportunities for cooperation,” said Kristian Faystinger, Executive Director of the International Astronautical Federation.
The Chinese orbital station is already open for international cooperation and ready to welcome astronauts from other countries on board.
K. Fei Stinger attaches special importance to the openness of the Chinese space station for international cooperation and expresses hope that the first foreign cosmonaut on board will appear as soon as possible.
The Chief Executive Director of the South African National Space Agency, Humbulani Mudau, stated that in recent years SANSA has been developing cooperation in the space sector with China and Russia. This cooperation opens up important opportunities for SANSA’s development. “What some perceive as competition is for us an opportunity: cooperation with China within BRICS allows us to build up our own space potential and technological progress, as well as to achieve success in the development of the space economy,” noted H. Mudau.
