At Leningradsky Station, 250 signs have been installed in a new color scheme — white letters on a dark background. This solution allows the devices to save electricity. Over 90 percent of passengers highly appreciated the ease of reading and design, and also called the navigation elements modern and informative.
“Leningradsky is the first railway station in Russia to become fully digital. The building and platforms are equipped with 125 signs, which are made in a dark color scheme. They guide the way to 35 important locations, including exits to the city, metro and MCC stations, passenger services, and departure platforms. Additionally, we made the schedule boards in the dark color scheme,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
Navigation elements were placed on all floors of the building. The installation and connection work was carried out by specialists from JSC “Mosinzhproekt” during the station’s renovation.
The new signs consume up to 70 percent less electricity, which positively impacts the environment. Additionally, thanks to this design, they will last longer. The dark theme also makes it easy to distinguish navigation signs from advertisements. At most major railway stations around the world, navigation elements feature a dark design.
To make a decision about the implementation, in December 2025 an experiment was conducted at the Vavilovskaya metro station. Part of the signs there were made traditional, light-colored, and part were dark. The study included visually impaired city residents among others. Passengers reacted positively to the introduction of dark navigation elements at Moscow’s transport facilities, so the decision was implemented in the Leningradsky railway station building.
Leningradsky railway station was opened in May 2026 after an update carried out jointly with the Moscow City Urban Development Policy and Construction Complex.
