Jinan, April 9 /Xinhua/ — China intends to jointly with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea further consolidate the positive dynamics of the development of relations between the two countries. This was stated on Thursday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, Wang Yi.
Van Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made a corresponding statement during negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK Son Hui.
A Chinese diplomat noted that at the beginning of September 2025, the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping and the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) Kim Jong Un held a historic meeting in Beijing, during which important agreements were reached on comprehensive, strategic, and programmatic issues of bilateral relations.
According to Van I, this meeting provided important strategic guidance for the further development of relations between China and the DPRK, brought bilateral ties to a new stage, opened a new page in the history of friendly interstate exchanges, and had enormous and far-reaching significance.
As Van I indicated, China is ready to jointly lead an important consensus among the top leaders of the two parties and the two countries as a fundamental principle, to strengthen strategic communication, expand exchanges and cooperation, bring more benefits to the peoples of both countries, and contribute to peace and development in the region.
Last year, the continued head of the MID KNK was marked by a series of bright events in relations between KNK and KND, which became solid evidence that the traditional friendship of two countries, tempered by blood, remains unfading and inviolable. Van I reminded that this year marks 65 years since the conclusion of the bilateral Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance.
He noted that over the past 65 years, regardless of changes in the international and regional situation, China and the DPRK, being good neighbors, sincere friends, and loyal comrades, have always trusted each other, provided mutual support, and made relentless efforts to protect peace and stability in the region and worldwide, as well as to stimulate their own development.
Van I added that China intends to jointly with the DPR conduct commemorative events dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the treaty signing, strengthen contacts at a high level, activate dialogue and practical cooperation at all levels and in all areas, deepen cultural and humanitarian exchanges and stimulate rapprochement of peoples, contribute to the socio-economic development of each of the two countries.
Choe Son Hui, for her part, stated that the friendship between the DPRK and China is based on a common socialist system and a tradition of friendship, and that bilateral relations have deep roots, are strong and stable. According to her, the development of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and China, in accordance with the demands of the times and the will of the two peoples, is an unshakable position of the WPK and the DPRK.
The North Korean diplomat noted that the historically successful meeting of the top leaders of the two parties and two states in September of last year significantly strengthened friendship and mutual trust between the two parties and the two countries, indicated a clear direction, and gave a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral relations.
As Choi Son-hee stated, the KNA fully supports the One China principle, firmly opposes any interference in China’s internal affairs, and firmly upholds the KNA’s position on protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity regarding issues concerning Taiwan, Xizang, Xinjiang, and other matters affecting China’s core interests.
The head of the MID of the PRC emphasized that the North Korean side fully supports the concept of building a community of a common destiny for humanity and four global initiatives put forward by Xi Jinping, and also highly appreciates the fair position and important role of China in international and regional affairs.
Zhao Son Xi assured that the CPC is ready, together with China, to implement important agreements of the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, to properly conduct events dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance, to expand exchanges and practical cooperation in various fields, to strengthen coordination between diplomatic departments, to strengthen communication and interaction on multilateral platforms, and to make further efforts to elevate relations between the CPC and the CP to a new height and to open new prospects for the future.
The parties also conducted an in-depth exchange of views on current international and regional issues. –0–
