Jerusalem, April 9 /Sina/ — The Israeli army reported on Thursday evening that it had begun striking positions of the “Hezbollah” movement in Lebanese territory.
Strikes followed a few hours after Israeli troops issued an evacuation warning for residents of Beirut neighborhoods, and shortly after Israel announced its intention to begin negotiations with the Lebanese government next week in Washington.
Speaking to servicemen in Bint-Jubail in southern Lebanon, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces Eyal Zamir stated that the army’s task is to “continue to inflict increasingly serious damage and weaken Hezbollah.” He added that Lebanon is currently “the main theater of military operations” for Israel and that the goal is to eliminate threats to the residents of northern Israel.
According to preliminary data published on Thursday by the Ministry of Health of Lebanon, the death toll from the strikes on Lebanese territory carried out by Israel on Wednesday has risen to 303 people, and the number of injured reached 1150. The ministry noted that search and rescue operations continue in several areas, and currently authorities are extracting bodies from the rubble and conducting identification of victims, including through DNA analysis.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since March 2, 1,888 people have died and 6,092 people have been injured as a result of Israeli strikes on Lebanon. Amid the escalation of the conflict, more than 100 air strikes were carried out on Lebanese territory on Wednesday, leading to numerous casualties and destructions.
Israel stated that the ceasefire between the USA and Iran does not extend to the conflict in Lebanon, against which Iran and Pakistan, acting as a mediator, object, with Tehran calling Lebanon an “integral” part of the ceasefire. –0–
