Specialists urban utilities complex The ‘Friendship of Peoples’ fountain at VDNKh was washed in anticipation of City Day, which will be celebrated on September 5th and 6th. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Improvement Petr Biryukov.
“Extensive cleaning work is planned for more than two thousand engineering structures. These include bridges, tunnels, underground and overground pedestrian crossings, embankments, piers, fountains, and monuments. We have cleaned one of the most recognizable structures at VDNH — the ‘Friendship of Peoples’ fountain, which was created in 1954,” noted Petr Biryukov.
The fountains at VDNKh are complex architectural and artistic structures with a large number of gilded sculptures, decorative copper and bronze elements. They require careful maintenance and are washed exclusively by hand.
Soft brushes and a citric acid solution are used to clean the gilded sculptures of girls, decorative fish figures, and dolphins. The basin and granite surfaces of the fountain were washed with a special neutral agent using high-pressure devices.
