Shanghai, August 20 /Xinhua/ — On Wednesday, as part of the Chinese stage of the China-Russia cross-border media tour dedicated to the 70th anniversary of cooperation between the Xinhua and TASS news agencies, representatives of the two news agencies visited the party-mass service center in the city of Shanghai, where they familiarized themselves with grassroots governance practices in China.
The party-mass service center “Utunyuan 66”, located in the Tianping residential quarter of Shanghai’s Xuhui district, occupies a total area of 1,200 sq. m. More than 150 events are held here every month, and over 1,400 people gather daily.
The center provides comprehensive community services to local residents. It not only focuses on meeting essential needs such as elderly care, meals, and haircuts, but also offers high-quality cultural and artistic services by organizing performances in the “pintan” genre (prose and song tales), various salons, reading events, art exhibitions, and other cultural activities to improve the quality of life for all categories of the local population.
In addition, such centers offer venues for consultations and discussions by organizations and residents of local neighborhoods. For example, at the “Utunyuán 66” center, issues related to people’s welfare in many residential complexes were comprehensively discussed, resulting in the identification of their “optimal solutions” that satisfied the population.
Visiting the aforementioned public service center sparked great interest among Russian journalists. They inquired about the activities conducted here and the operating hours of the public canteen, as well as asked many other questions.
“It is a living organism that unites tens of thousands of residents and visiting specialists into a single community. It is a unique form of state support provided to the population,” shared Yulia Kozlova, Deputy Head of the Information Editorial Office for Foreign Subscribers at TASS, describing the support in such centers as a coherent system, a well-thought-out state investment in improving people’s quality of life and expanding their leisure activities.
“The atmosphere here is pleasant, very cozy. The rooms are spacious and open. It is clear that the country cares about the population – both the young and the elderly. It’s good that such a place is not unique; it exists in other cities and throughout the country,” said Elena Berezina, head of the press center of the Regional Information Center “TASS Caucasus.”
