Wenchang /Hainan Province/, August 19 /Xinhua/ — The launch of the lunar probe “Chang’e-7” is planned to be carried out at an appropriate time, officials from the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced.
According to the agency’s report, on Wednesday, the combination of the lunar probe “Chang’e-7” and the carrier rocket “Long March-5 Y14” was delivered in a vertical position to the launch pad at the Wenchang Cosmodrome in Hainan Province (South China).
The aforementioned lunar probe and launch vehicle were delivered to the cosmodrome in April and July of this year respectively, and have since undergone assembly and testing. CMSA stated that all objects and equipment at the launch site are operating normally, and functional checks, joint tests, and fueling of the launch vehicle will be carried out according to schedule before launch.
The goal of the “Chang’e-7” mission is to achieve breakthroughs in mastering many key technologies, such as high-precision soft landing on the lunar surface, walking, jumping, and exploring permanently shadowed craters on the lunar surface.
According to CMSA, during the Chang’e-7 mission, comprehensive research methods will be employed, supported by equipment such as an orbiter, lander, rover, and a hopper to survey the environment and resources of the Moon’s South Pole. International cooperation will also be carried out as part of this mission.
