Beijing, August 18 /Xinhua/ — The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Digital Economy Forum 2026 will be held from September 14 to 16 in the city of Urumqi, the administrative center of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Northwest China).
As reported by Yu Ying, Deputy Head of the State Data Administration of China, the forum will be attended by representatives of governments, reputable analytical centers, leading companies, higher education institutions, and industry associations of SCO member countries. About 500 people are expected to gather in Urumqi, of whom more than 200 will be foreign guests.
According to Yu Ying, the forum program includes a closed ministerial-level meeting, an opening ceremony and plenary session, four thematic subforums, and a number of accompanying special events.
It has become known that the participants of the closed ministerial meeting will focus their attention on strengthening intergovernmental dialogue and building platforms for practical cooperation. A list of priority areas for cooperation among SCO member states in the field of digital economy for the period 2026-2027 will be discussed and drawn up, which will serve as a guide for further deepening of cooperation.
Four thematic subforums will be dedicated to issues such as digital interconnectedness, digital trade and the economy of transport and logistics corridors, the industrial application of digital and intelligent technologies, digital governance, and the development of digital potential.
To facilitate the achievement of concrete results within the framework of the forum, an interactive exhibition, sessions for establishing business contacts, and off-site visits to local projects and enterprises will be organized.
Cooperation in the field of digital economy has become one of the main priorities on the SCO agenda in recent years. At the SCO summit in Tianjin in September 2025, the heads of the organization’s member states adopted a statement on strengthening the development of the digital economy, committing themselves to deepening cooperation in the development of international rules and standards in data security, in the development of digital infrastructure, and in improving the quality of public services provided. –0–
