Greetings to you, esteemed Mr. Min Aung Hlaing. Welcome to the House of the Government of the Russian Federation.
This is your first official visit to the Russian Federation as the President of Myanmar. I am confident that the strategic agreements reached at the highest level will give a new impetus to strengthening Russian-Myanmar cooperation.
Myanmar is an important partner of Russia in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. Our relations are based on strong traditions of friendship, mutual respect, and consideration of each other’s interests.
We see good opportunities to expand bilateral trade, economic, and investment cooperation. We consider it important to create favorable conditions for the implementation of joint projects in industry, energy, transport infrastructure, and the agro-industrial complex.
We propose to actively develop cooperation in the field of high technology. We are ready to share advanced developments in the digital economy, the development of autonomous electronic systems, and the application of artificial intelligence with our Myanmar partners.
The Russian-Myanmar Intergovernmental Commission is responsible for addressing specific cooperation issues. On the Russian side, it is headed by the Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Gennadyevich Reshetnikov.
Special attention is paid to the investment sphere. Russian companies intend to participate in the operation of the special economic zone “Dawei” on the territory of Myanmar. This large-scale project will increase mutual trade turnover and create new jobs, including in the small and medium business sector.
We are also beginning the implementation of agreements on the construction of a small nuclear power plant in Myanmar. This project will give a strong impetus to the development of cooperation in related fields, including fundamental and applied scientific research. And it will become a new symbol of Russian-Myanmar friendship.
A few words about humanitarian cooperation. We would like to highlight personnel training as one of the important areas. More than 7 thousand students from Myanmar have received higher education in Russia in the most in-demand specialties. We are interested in expanding tourist exchanges. The intergovernmental agreement on mutual visa waiver, signed last October, is being implemented. Now citizens of our countries can travel visa-free for up to 30 days. I am confident that tourists will be interested in exploring the unique nature, culture, and spiritual traditions of Russia and Myanmar.
